About URL Encode
URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, symbols, and non English letters have to be percent encoded before they go into a link. This tool does that encoding for you.
Component mode escapes everything that is not allowed in a single value, which is what you want for a query parameter. Full mode keeps characters like slashes and question marks intact, which is right when you are encoding a whole URL.
How to Use
- Paste the text or URL you want to encode.
- Choose component mode for a single value or full mode for a whole URL.
- Read the encoded result in the output box.
- Copy it into your link or request.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between component and full mode?
Component mode uses encodeURIComponent and escapes reserved characters like slashes and ampersands, which suits a single parameter value. Full mode uses encodeURI and leaves URL structure characters alone.
When should I URL encode text?
Encode any value that contains spaces, symbols, or non English characters before placing it in a query string or path so the link is not broken or misread.
Is my text private?
Yes. Encoding happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
