Software & Data Engineering

When you need an experienced engineer to actually build the hard parts, I do the work: data pipelines, web scraping infrastructure, integrations, and systems that have to hold up.

Sometimes you do not need advice, you need the hard part actually built by someone senior. That is where I roll up my sleeves. I build the things that are easy to get wrong: data pipelines, large-scale web scraping and collection infrastructure, integrations between systems that were never meant to talk, and backends that have to be reliable under real load. Distributed scraping infrastructure in particular is a specialty of mine.

You get an experienced engineer on the hard problem, not a junior learning on your dime.

What it covers

  • Data pipelines that move and transform data reliably
  • Large-scale web scraping and data collection infrastructure
  • Integrations between systems and third-party APIs
  • Backends built to stay up under real load
  • Getting messy data clean, structured, and usable
  • Automating the heavy, repetitive, error-prone work
  • Fixing or rescuing a build that stalled or went wrong
  • Doing it so your team can maintain it after I hand it over

Who it’s for

  • Teams with a hard technical problem and no senior to own it
  • Companies whose data is valuable but trapped or messy
  • Founders who need a specific thing built properly and fast

What you get

  • The system actually built, working, and in production
  • Clean, documented code your team can own
  • A clear handover so nothing depends on me staying
  • Monitoring so you can see it working, and know when it is not
  • A straight account of the trade-offs made and why

How it works

  1. 1

    Scope

We get precise about what needs to exist and what done looks like.

  2. 2

    Design

I choose an approach that is solid now and that your team can maintain later.

  3. 3

    Build

I build it, keeping you updated in plain language as it comes together.

  4. 4

    Harden

I make it reliable and observable, not just working on my machine.

  5. 5

    Hand over

I document it and hand it to your team so you are not dependent on me.

The hard parts, built to be handed off

The engagements people call me for are the ones that are easy to get wrong: data pipelines that have to be reliable, large-scale collection and scraping infrastructure that has to keep running when sites change, and integrations between systems that were never designed to talk. Distributed scraping infrastructure in particular is a specialty of mine, and it is unforgiving work, the kind where experience is the difference between something that runs for years and something that breaks every week.

I build these to be owned by your team, not to keep you dependent on me, which means clean code, real documentation, and monitoring so you can see it working. Often this is the execution end of a bigger plan, whether that is the building inside an AI and digital transformation effort or the specific rebuild a architecture review identified as necessary.

Why work with me

I’m Matt George, a fractional CTO for SMBs and early-stage startups and the founder of the venture-backed legal-tech company Injuria.ai. I have built and shipped real products end to end, from scrappy MVPs to data and AI infrastructure running in production, so the advice here comes from doing the work rather than talking about it. You get a senior technical partner with nothing to sell you, no vendor kickbacks, and a bias toward shipping.

FAQ

Do you still do hardware or embedded work?

No. My work is software and data: pipelines, scraping, integrations, and backends. If you need hardware or embedded, I will tell you straight and can help you find the right person.

Is web scraping legal and safe to rely on?

It depends entirely on what and how. I build collection infrastructure with the legal and ethical limits in mind and will flag clearly where something is a risk rather than quietly building it.

Will my team be able to maintain what you build?

Yes. Clean code, documentation, and a real handover are part of the work, not an upsell. The goal is to leave, not to make you dependent.

Can you rescue a project someone else botched?

Often, yes. Coming in to stabilize and finish a stalled or broken build is a common engagement.
