If you are not technical, your codebase is a black box you are paying to trust. A code review opens it. I read the actual code, not a summary of it, and tell you plainly how well it is built, how much debt is piling up, where the security and reliability risks are, and whether what you have been told matches reality. You get findings ranked by severity, with the quick wins marked.

It is independent. If your team or agency built something solid, I will say so, and if they did not, you will have the evidence.

What it covers

  • How well the code is actually written and structured
  • Technical debt and the shortcuts that will cost you later
  • Security issues hiding in the code
  • Reliability and the bugs most likely to hit production
  • Whether tests exist and actually protect you
  • Whether the code matches what you have been told it does
  • How maintainable it is, and how trapped you are in one person
  • Clear, ranked fixes, with the fast ones marked

Who it’s for

  • Non-technical founders who want an honest second opinion
  • Companies unsure whether an agency delivered quality
  • Teams about to scale, raise, or sell who need the real picture

What you get

  • A written code review in plain language, not jargon
  • Findings ranked worst-first, with quick wins flagged
  • A severity read on security and reliability risks
  • A practical fix list with rough effort for each
  • A walkthrough call so you understand what it means for you

How it works

  1. 1

    Scope

We agree what to review and what you are worried about.

  2. 2

    Read the code

I go through the actual codebase, not a summary, under NDA.

  3. 3

    Assess

I separate the solid from the risky and rank what matters.

  4. 4

    Report

I write up findings worst-first, in language you can act on.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough

We talk it through so you know exactly what to do next.

Reading the code, not the status report

When you are not technical, you are trusting status updates and demos, neither of which tells you whether the thing under them is solid. A code review replaces trust with evidence. I read the actual code and tell you plainly how well it is built, how much debt is accumulating, where the security and reliability risks sit, and whether it matches what you have been told it does, with the findings ranked so you know what to fix first.

A code review answers a narrow question well: is this code any good. When the question is bigger, it pairs with other work, a architecture review for how the whole system scales and fails, and a security review for how it could be attacked. Together they turn a black box into something you can make decisions about, whether you are about to scale, hire, raise, or sell.

Why work with me

I’m Matt George, a fractional CTO for SMBs and early-stage startups and the founder of the venture-backed legal-tech company Injuria.ai. I have built and shipped real products end to end, from scrappy MVPs to data and AI infrastructure running in production, so the advice here comes from doing the work rather than talking about it. You get a senior technical partner with nothing to sell you, no vendor kickbacks, and a bias toward shipping.

FAQ

I cannot read code. Is this useful to me?

Especially to you. The whole point is to translate the state of your code into plain language and clear decisions, so you are not just trusting someone’s word.

How is this different from an architecture review?

Code review looks at the code itself, line by line. Architecture review looks at how the whole system fits and scales. Many clients do both; they answer different questions.

Will my team or agency find out?

That is your call. Some clients do this quietly for their own clarity; others share it openly to drive fixes. I work to whatever you decide.

What if the code is actually fine?

Then I will tell you that plainly, which is worth knowing too. I have no incentive to invent problems.
