About Text to Slug

A slug is the readable part of a URL that identifies a page, like the words after the last slash in a blog address. This tool converts a title into a slug by lowercasing the text, removing accents and punctuation, and joining the words with hyphens.

It is useful for blog permalinks, product URLs, file names, and anchor IDs. You can switch the separator to an underscore and choose whether to force lowercase.

How to Use

  1. Type or paste the title or phrase you want to convert.
  2. Choose a hyphen or underscore as the separator.
  3. Leave lowercase on for a standard URL slug.
  4. Copy the slug and paste it into your link.

Frequently Asked Questions

What characters are removed?

Accents are flattened to plain letters and any character that is not a letter, number, space, hyphen, or underscore is removed, then the remaining words are joined by your chosen separator.

Should I use hyphens or underscores?

Search engines generally prefer hyphens between words in a URL, so hyphen is the default, but underscore is available if your system needs it.

Is my text private?

Yes. The slug is generated in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
